  2. Random but True Marijuana Facts • The primary active ingredient in marijuana is THC (delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol). It is this chemical that produces marijuana’s mind-altering effects. • The first law in the American colonies regarding marijuana was a 1619 law that actually required farmers to grow the hemp plant. Once harvested, hemp was useful for clothing, sails, and rope. • During the temperance movement of the 1890s, marijuana was commonly recommended as a substitute for alcohol. The reason for this was that use of marijuana did not lead to domestic violence while alcohol abuse did. • Prior to its ban, hemp was a staple cash crop of the family farm in early America. The first two drafts of the United States Declaration of Independence were written on paper made from hemp. • 41% of Americans have smoked marijuana at least once sometime in their life.

  4. How marijuana can benefit college students! • Safer alternative to drinking • Job opportunities (both now and for the future) • Better economy from legalizations leads to a more prosperous future for America.

How Marijuana Can Help Economically • U.S. National Debt was reported to exceed $16 trillion • Jeffery Miron, a Harvard Economist estimates a total revenue of $13.7 billion from the legalization of MJ. • Do you like paying for harmless stoners to sit in jail just for possession? • Stop supplying the violent drug cartels and keep money in the U.S. • Keep the growing, cultivation, and distribution in the U.S. One more way for government to tax MJ more!

How MJ Helps Socially • Amsterdam, Netherlands MJ is sold in small regulated amounts in coffee shops around the city. • If legalized, marijuana would reduce the power of the drug cartels. • Legalization would lead in an influx of new job opportunities for farmers and businessmen. • Relieve overpopulated prisons by releasing harmless stoners.

Medical Marijuana • First recorded medicinal use of marijuana was 2737 B.C. by Chinese Emperor ShenNung. • People get medicinal cards for marijuana for a number of illnesses and ailments including: chronic pain, HIV, cancer patients, and glaucoma. • You can’t overdose on marijuana. • When your born, your brain contains THC receptors, so why aren’t we allowed to use them?

  8. Ironic that marijuana is illegal on the federal level yet it is legal for medicinal use in our nation’s capital.
