Personalization in a teenager: The importance of eating enough calories and eating all of the food groups • Teenagers are going through puberty and growing very fast • Brain is going through a big change. You brain changes three major times throughout life, when you are a fetus, 1-3 years old, and now during puberty. • Your brain is being restructured now for your adult years, therefore, you want to give your body the nutrition it needs so your brain can reform these connections.
How to eat? • Eat when you are hungry and pick the right foods. Not refined sugars! • Drink enough water! • DO NOT DEPRIVE YOURSELF- your metabolism will slow down because it is trying to save energy. Also your body will use other sources for food like muscle around your organs! • DO NOT DIET DURING PUBERTY!
Women and food • Women have an extra layer of fat in order to carry a baby • Women have evolved over time to have large hips to give birth • THEREFORE, it is more natural for women to not be stick thin!
