Where I’m From By: David Williams
I am from the dirt clouds and trails and rocks in the alleyway.
I am from the suits and ties, the blazer which restricts your movement and creates great posture.
I am from cornbread and bug eyes, from Habieb and Bedford and Williams.
I am from the cross and high tempo music every other Sunday. I am from the Holy Ghost and spiritual dancing.
I'm from Queens, Brooklyn, West Philadelphia, corn Bread and cabbage.
From the dog my dad lost to the blistering winter. The hot summers my dad worked for his dad for his first car, and the jelly bean grits breakfast my family ate.
I am from high shelves filled with dust and memories where legacies were made, dreams were broken, tears were dropped, love was found and time was preserved.
