  1. My Favorite Artist- project Believe it or not, all music today is a results of the music of the past. The elements of music evolve from previous times and styles, and become what we hear today.

  2. Introduction • So ask yourself: what makes rock, rock?, or hip-hop, hip-hop? What are their characteristics and who are their major artists? Since the purpose of music appreciation is to understand all types of music, it is then important to know how each particular style of music develops or uses all musical elements in order to make the style a unique characteristic sound.

  3. Project Tasks • You will create a PP presentation with the content of your research, and will present your findings to the class. If you are working in teams, divide the work with your partner equally and begin your research asap, following the guidelines given. In this project you will research one of your favorite artists and will share with the class details about this artist’ s life, style of music, accomplishments, etc. following specific guidelines

  4. Process • First: Decide who your artist will be and give this persons name to your teacher on the first day of your research. • Second: Begin your online research and MAKE notes, for later. Make sure to follow the guidelines. Then write your summaries in your paper. • Third: Create your PP presentation following the guidelines given. You should have no less than 12 slides. Remember, USE appropriate backgrounds and fonts. You will have about 5 class sessions to complete PP presentation • Fourth: Present in front on the class. • (use about 3-5 class sessions)

Research Guidelines PART 1: Content requirements of your research: You MUST answer all of these questions 1) Title & Introduction: Why did you choose this person? – 1 slide 2) Artist’s name (and birth name), place and DOB -- 1 slide. 3) Artist’s life: a) childhood, b) adolescence, and c) adulthood --- 3 slides, one for each age period. 4) Summarize this person’s main musical style and explain its characteristics. – 2 slides 5) Notable accomplishments: Albums, awards, career, other successes outside music, etc – 2 slides

If none, then explain what is this person famous for? -- 1 silde 7) What is the most interesting fact I learned from my research? --- 1 slide 8)What have I accomplished or learned during this project? --- 1 slide 9) You MUST give your teacher a “clean” example or a link of this artist’s music by the deadline to be played in class on the day of your presentation.

Presentation guidelines PART 2: Outline for PowerPoint/ Visual Presentation -- • It MUST have ALL items from Content Requirements – with the minimum # of required 12 slides (see # in parenthesis). • Add a background that is appropriate- don’t over do it. • Fix your font and format it to make it easy to read • Add transitions to your slides and/or information • Add graphics that complement the theme/topic • Proofread your presentation & practice your presentation before presenting it. Don’t just read from the screen
