United Nations + Development • On ground presence in 172 countries • $US 5 billion total income for 2009 • ~7,000 staff worldwide • Demand-driven: ability to respond flexibly to developing country needs in accordance with their own plans/priorities • UNDP administers special funds and programmes, including the UN Fund for Women, the UNV Programme, the UN Capital Development Fund.
What we stand for • Neutrality & respect for countries' control over their own future • National ownership of UNDP programmes: solidarity, trust, responsiveness • Alternative paths to development • Partnering with governments, CSOs, private sector, people in supporting their own solutions to development challenges
