  1. Basic Exposure Controls SHUTTER SPEEDS APERTURE / F-STOPS ISO SENSITIVITY

  2. ISO Setting - Controls the sensitivityof the sensor ISO Sensitivity -Lower number for brighter situations (100, 200iso) -Use a higher number for darker situations (400, 800, 1600iso) Higher number = more sensitivity = grain and noise in digital files

  3. Higher the number, more grain and artifacts ISO Sensitivity

  4. Aperture – controls the amount of light coming thru the lens • Little opening, “Big Honking Hole”! • Designated in “f-stops” f2.8, f4.0, f5.6, f8, f11, 16, f22 • -Smaller opening for brighter situations • (f8, f11, f16, f22) • -Wider opening for darker situations • (f2.8, f4. f5.6) Aperture orf-stops

  5. Aperture orf-stops -Smaller opening for brighter situations (f8, f11, f16, f22) -Wider opening for darker situations (f2.8, f4. f5.6)

  6. Aperture also determines the depth of field Or, what’s in focus from front to back Aperture orf-stops

  7. Shutter Speedscontrols how fast the shutter opens and closes Designated by shutter speed dial or menu; 60th, 125th, 250th, 500th -Faster shutter speed freezes action (500th, 1000th, 2000th, etc) -Slower shutter speed for highlighting motion (30th, 60th, etc)

  8. Shutter Speedscontrol how fast the shutter opens and closes @ f 16 Designated by shutter speed dial, menu: 60th, 125th, 250th, 500th Shutter speed also freezes or blurs the action!

  9. Shutter SpeedsFast Shutter Speeds Freeze the Action1/250th, 1/500th, 1/2000th

  10. Shutter SpeedsSlow Shutter Speeds Exaggerate the Action 1/30th or less

  11. ISO + Shutter Speed + Aperturebalanced togetherdetermine proper exposure “Sunny 16 Rule?”

  12. How will I know I have reached exposure Nirvana? What’s Proper Exposure?

  13. What’s All The Crap In My Viewfinder??

  14. What’s All The Crap In My Viewfinder??

  15. What’s All The Crap In My Viewfinder??

  16. But I’m using the GREEN setting… Scene Modes

  17. Scene Modes Let your camera make the decisions! Lady = Portraits Mountains = Landscapes Flower = Macro Photos Runner = Action Photos Star – Night time Photos Others: “Food”, “Candlelight”, “Fireworks, “Snow”, “NightShot”, “Performance”, etc…

  18. Scene Modes M = Manual Mode AV = Aperture Priority TV = Shutter Priority (Canon) S = Shutter Priority (Nikon) P – Evil, evil Program Mode

  19. Scene Modes Aperture Priority – You set the Aperture and the camera selects the ISO Sensitivity and Shutter Speeds for proper exposure Shutter Priority – You set the Shutter Speed and the camera selects the ISO Sensitivity and Aperturefor proper exposure
