  2. CDC / Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) CDC ASSESSMENT: • “Vaccination coverage levels among adults are unacceptably low.” • “Substantial increases in vaccination coverage are needed to reduce the occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases among adults.”

  3. Preventive Services Under ACA for Adults • Screenings: Aortic Aneurysm, Cholesterol, Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Depression, HIV, Colorectal, Syphilis, Obesity, Breast Cancer • Vaccinations: Flu, Pneumococcus, Shingles, Hepatitis A and B, Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis, Chickenpox, HPV, Meningicoccus • Counseling: Alcohol, STDs, Diet, Smoking

CDC: Three Suggested Steps to Improve Vaccination Rates • Educate potential vaccine recipients and use publicity to promote vaccination • increase access to vaccination services in medical and complementary settings, e.g., workplaces and commercial establishments • use practices shown to improve vaccination coverage, including reminder-recall systems, removal of administrative and financial barriers to vaccination, use of standing order programs

Vaccination Resources • ACIP schedule and VPD information www.cdc.gov/vaccines, other sites including www.healthypeople.gov, www.vaccines.gov. • UADCVD can use this wealth of information to help educate fund members, with goal of raising immunization rates and reducing incidence and cost of VPDs.

  7. Trust for America’s Health – Vaccination is Top 10 Priority • Increase Childhood and Adult Vaccinations. • Vaccines are responsible for the control of many infectious diseases. Public health professionals and health care providers should utilize the new vaccine-coverage provisions in the Affordable Care Act and the development of electronic health records to ensure everyone receives vaccines on time, at no cost. All health care workers must receive recommended vaccines.
