  2. What was his nation/tribe/name/identity • Bennelong was a senior man from the Eora nation in Sydney. • His name meaning is unknown but his first name is Woollarawarre

Achievements in Life Bennelong and another aboriginal man, Yemmerrawannie travelled to England so the British settlers (invaders) could understand more about Aboriginal culture and learn their languages. He contributed to the peace between settlers and Aboriginal people. Was one of the first Aboriginal men to go to England.

  4. How important was Bennelong for the Aboriginal people? Bennelong was the person who taught the British settlers about the aboriginal culture and language. He also studied hard to learn English so he could communicate with British Settlers. He was one of the few people who wanted peace between Aboriginal people and the British.

  5. Timeline of his life 1764- Supposed date of birth 1789- Taken away by British soldiers to live in Sydney. He was taken so Governor Phillip could learn about the Aboriginal people. 1790- Sails to England with Governor Phillip and another Aboriginal man, Yemmerrawannie. Yemmerrawannie dies in England. 1795- Bennelong arrives back from England. 1800- Leader of an aboriginal colony 1813- Death. The most likely cause of Bennelong’s death was excessive consumption of alcohol. His grave is at Bennelong Point, where the Opera House is now.
