石油天然技 MARINE ENGINEERING AND OFFSHORE TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW The recent state of the world economy has affected the maritime industry in general. However, an upward trend has emerged from the first quarter figures of 2010. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), PRC, the two major indexes (capacity and new ship orders) of China have recorded steady growth for the first quarter of 2010. The total capacity reached 14.57 million DWT, a substantial increase of 128 per cent and accounting for a worldwide share of 41.4 per cent. What’s more, China’s new ship-order tonnage has recorded 8.26 million DWT, an impressive 10.5 times larger than figures from the same period in 2009. This accounts for 47.8 per cent of the world’s market share. It goes without saying that communications and ideas exchanges are necessary for continuity and healthy development of the marine industry in China. Furthermore, with China saying that it’s now committed to a low-carbon economy, it is now very opportune to look at policy measures for green development and how to adapt to climate change. China is now looking to explore and utilise ocean resources scientifically and quicken the development of the Marine economy. Not only will this step up transformation of the nation’s economic growth pattern, but will also further boost economic development in the eastern regions of the country. As China continues to invest in state-of-the-art foreign technology, this can only be good news for those at the forefront of innovation and who have the capacity to service such enormous demand. Marine Engineering & Offshore Technology is the only journal in its field to be granted an exclusive publishing license in China. The Economic Information Agency’s (EIA) official “Kan Hao” license allows Cavendish Group to sell subscriptions in China. www.marineoffshoretechnology.net
