Session Objectives: • To give an overview of the work of the Development & Alumni Relations Office. • To provide an understanding of the Government Matched Funding scheme and how it can benefit Warwick. • To help staff understand how they can be involved in maximising this opportunity.
DARO - What We Do Alumni Relations team – interface with 130,000 alumni worldwide Annual Giving – encouraging a culture of giving amongst alumni and friends Major Gifts Team – relationships with trusts and foundations and prospects giving greater than £1k Support functions of research, finance, gift administration and database

Improving our Services… Prospect Management System Completed First Ever Wealth Screening Regular team meetings with emphasis on knowledge sharing between DARO and other departments Institution of the ‘Major Gift’ team to bring about a co-ordinated approach to prospect management and campaigns

Warwick Match Aim = to increase charitable income and participation £200 million available to Higher Education institutions in England until July 2011 Up to £2.75 million is available to Warwick in the form of matched funds Matching ratio = additional £1 for every £3 raised Warwick will match gifts from new donors and increased/additional gifts from existing donors
What income is eligible? • Only gifts are eligible for matched funding. • HEFCE states that a gift is… • A voluntary transfer of money by a donor, made with philanthropic intent. • After receipt, the gift must be owned in full by the receiving institution. • The recipient institution must retain complete ownership of any • resultant work or project. • The donor may not retain any explicit or implicit control over a gift after acceptance by an institution.
How can Warwick staff be involved in maximising this opportunity? All philanthropic income should be directed through DARO in order to benefit from Gift Aid and Warwick Match. Please contact DARO for advice on philanthropic income and Warwick Match.
