Introduction • Words of wisdom from the wisest mortal that ever lived • An exhortation addressed to those in their youth • But it is an admonition that every person should consider regardless of their age • It is man’s first and greatest responsibility • If we do not do this, our life will be a failure • Let us consider this brief but extremely important exhortation this morning
Remember • There are some things that we should forget • There are other things that we don’t want to forget, but we do • But it is dangerous and sinful to forget God • Yet the Jews often forgot their creator- Judg. 3:7 • Many people in this country today have forgotten God • Solomon is not saying that young people need to remember that they have a creator • But to remember their relationship to their Creator
Your Creator • The the One who has made all things- Heb. 11:3 • This earth and all the things we need • Recall that He is “your” Creator • Remember the sound mind and a healthy body he has given you • Remember all the great blessings that He has provided for you in the past and those you enjoy in the present- I Tim. 6:17 • Remember that it is your duty to honor Him and obey His word • This is man’s all- Eccl. 12:13
Why in Your Youth?-1 • Youth is the time when we are first able to understand our responsibility to God and we become accountable to Him- Isa. 7:16 • The best time to obey the gospel is when we first understand it • Youth is the time of innocence and purity • Obeying God’s law will help maintain that purity- Psa. 119:9 • Those who “sow wild oats” will later regret it- Gal. 6:7-8
Why in Your Youth?-2 3. Youth is the time of greatest energy • It is also when we have the least demands on our time • The lord deserves the best of our life rather than the leftovers • Habits developed in youth often last throughout life • Bad habits are difficult to eliminate • These will make it more difficult to obey God when one is older • Good habits like worship and Bible study will be a continuous blessing
Reasons for Remembering Our Creator-1 1. It is the only safe course in this life- I Pet. 3:12 • The disobedient walk on a slippery path and may fall to destruction at any time- Psa. 73:18 • It is always best for us • We do not what is best for us now or in the future- Jer. 10:23 • But God’s way will always be what is best for us- Deut. 6:24 3. It will bring genuine happiness and peace of mind- I Pet. 3:10-11 & Prov. 28:1
Reasons for Remembering Our Creator-2 • The word “blessed’ in the beatitudes means happy • It will make us a light and a blessing to our family, friends andneighbors- Phil. 2:15 • We live in a world of spiritual darkness that desperately needs more light 5. We are going to give account for the way we live our livesII Cor. 5:10
Reasons for Remembering Our Creator-3 • Another admonition to the young- “Rejoice , O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment.”- Eccl. 11:9 • Death and the judgment are two appointments that are ahead for all of us- Heb. 9:27
Reasons for Remembering Our Creator-4 6. A time is coming when it will be too late to remember our Creator to honor and obey Him • The rich man was told by Abraham to remember that he had received good things in his life on earth- Lk. 16:25 • His response to God’s blessings was the reason he was in torment • It was too late for him to change his condition or to help his brothers avoid the same
Remember Now • Regardless of one’s age, now is the only time that is assured to us • The young may not grow older • And those older will surely run out of time and opportunity • Paul wrote “behold, now is the accepted time; behold, today is the day of salvation,”- II Cor. 6:2 • Are you remembering your creator to honor and serve Him this morning?
