  1. Commander Submarine Forces SSN FRTP Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Workshop Outbrief December 5, 2007 Black Belt: Vicki Farwell, WBB Green Belt: David Ruedi, CSF N5

  2. Objective & Results • Determine documented and implied SSN FRTP requirements, map existing FRTP schedules, identify opportunities for improvement. • Identified several opportunities to provide more CODT

  3. Workshop Overview

  6. SSN FRTP “As Is” Value Stream • Mapped nominal SSN FRTP from Instruction • Assumes DSRA/MOD • Have data on all LANT SSN actual scheds for last 2 yrs • To be used in follow-on analysis • Indicated Supplies and Outputs from Processes • Nearly every step in FRTP is a Value Stream in itself • Most of time crunch/issues come in “U/W or INPT 0-4 wks”

  7. Prioritized Other Areas of “Pain” • Brainstormed all services/employment not specifically mentioned in FRTP • Identified most “painful” • Items beyond our control segregated • Analyzed top 10 for feasibility of improvement

  8. Developed Projects and “Just-Do-Its” • Prioritized based on Impact on SSN schedules and CSF ability to influence changes. • Top 5 projects offer significant potential for return of CODT • First cut data collection plans developed • Some Just-Do-Its already being done

  9. Recommendations • Eliminating/Combining/Distributing TRE “big win” project • Deployment Champion implement top 5 projects • Identify Project Champion/Sponsor • Obtain Black Belts/Assign Green Belt • Coordinate timeline • Recommend implement Just-Do-Its • Many already in progress or done de facto
