  1. You might be asking yourself… What’s with these crazy 62% posters? Or, you might not have seen them or cared

  2. 62%...Why is that important to me? My Class? The CTC? Have you seen or heard about this poster? Now you might know they are there.

  3. Are you asking yourself these questions? • Is it hot/cold in here or is it just me  • What is in this “Gimmick” thing for me? • How can I avoid having Mr. Noller call on me? • Who is texting me right now?

  4. Well… It is myjob and your instructor’s job to try to convince you to take the next 20 minutes serious and to heart and get you to do your VERY BEST on the Technical Skills Assessment.

  5. What is a TSA? Let’s talk about this • Technical Skills/Student Assessment – Career Ed Programs • Given to every Senior and any Juniors completing a one year program (Auto I, CSS I, Fire Science) • In 2011, 291 CTC students will take tests ranging between 100 questions to 206 questions • Our goal is to have 62% of our students (181) reach the national average, cut score, or test goal and be deemed PROFICIENT

Questions for you • How do you define proficiency? • What motivates you to do your best? • Why would you choose not to do your best on this test or an EOC at your local high school? • Have you ever taken a test where your score effects your classmates and/or the whole building? • What information do you want to know about the test?

Proficiency • Dictionary.com • well-advanced or competent in any art, science, or subject; skilled: a proficient swimmer. • Proficient is the benchmark standard – in this this case reaching an “adequate” score that represents knowledge and skill necessary to be successful. • Is it easy…no. Never before have more than 56.8% of our students reached the goal or been deemed proficient

What are the rewards for doing well? • Individual Rewards • Certificate & Level of Achievement • 15% above test goal: Platinum – Certificate and T-Shirt* • 5% above test goal: Gold – Certificate and chance for T-Shirt* (SHOW T-SHIRT) • Growth from Pre-Test – Certificate and chance for T-Shirt • Inner satisfaction – Bragging rights – Proof of Proficiency/Learning • Entered in possible drawings for cash (depending upon availability)

  11. It’s not just all about you • Students on Advisory Council have said the last few years… “WE LIKE TO BE FED!” • We also like to have fun/party • So what happens if the building reaches the goal? What if we do not? Can I still be fed or celebrate? • Answers on following pages

  12. 62% = Celebration/Barbeque/Other? • If we are going to celebrate, we ALL are going to do it. If 62% or less reach proficiency on this test, we go to plan B • Tentative date of Celebrating - Friday, May 7 • Advisory Council will help adults define what that day looks like. Traditionally, we have spent $1000+ on TSA Rewards + T-Shirts

  16. Plan B – Who will be rewarded • At least one AM/PM section per Program • Any/Every section where 62% of the students reach proficiency • If neither section has 62% of its students reach proficiency, EVERY SCORE is averaged and counts

  17. How does the averaging work? PM average = 56.5% AM average = 59.3% AM Class gets fed and parties + bragging rights!

  18. What can I do to prepare for test? Bring a calculator (scratch paper must be provided) Be here the day of the test after getting a good night’s sleep See information on the next and final slide and set a goal for yourself Compete, compete, compete…versus you, the AM/PM class, and the building goal • Go to the website of the test and check out what is on the test • Look over the outline of the test and look up what you don’t know • Get yourself in test mode • Encourage your classmates • Bring a calculator (scratch paper must be provided)
