How it works. • Trenches are little dug-in passage ways that soldiers use to live in and hide in during attacks.
There are many ways to build trenches • Trenches are originally built by getting many soldiers to dig holes 7 feet deep and 6 feet wide. • Trenches can be upgraded with materials such as wood or concrete. (this would decrease the chances of a trench collapsing)
There are Three types of trenches. • Frontline trenches – These trenches filled with soldiers, Were angled towards the enemy trenches for Fighting in • Communication trenches – These Trenches ran between the Frontline trenches, and reserve trenches. They were used to transport food, men and supplies mostly. • Reserve Trenches – These were the trenches farthest back from enemy lines, they were filled with supplies of all kinds.
Parts of a Trench • The front of a trench (the side facing the enemy) is called the Parapet and the rear (the side facing your side) is called the Parados. Both these walls are were commonly protected with sandbag walls. • The Fire-step Is the ledge that the soldier stands on to shoot over the trench from. • Funk Holes are holes in the trench wall. • Dugouts are underground rooms roofed with iron or wood
