INNOVATIONS IN THE ELC PROGRAM • The ELC coursewasdividedinto4 modules: • Introdcution, HL7 v2, HL7 v3 andCDA • A self-evaluation survey was added at the end of each Unit; • A Chatand videochatresources was added; • A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) resource was added; • A Student Diary was added; • A Downloads area was added for distributing software and additional materials • A generalbibliography and list of Internet resources was added; • A manual for tutors and a manual for using the videochat as a host were added; • A Next Events box and a Calendar box were added, so that students can keep their deadlines in mind; • A bulletin board box with news about the course was added; • The final grade will be a weighted composition of the several grades along the course
PROCEDURAL INNOVATIONS • The course was launched in a one-day, on-site event in São Paulo, featuring presentations on the course's subject, and with hands-on tour and instructions sessions on how to use the site; • The event will be transmitted live via webconferencingto students who won't be able to participate; • A midweek videochatwill be held following each unit, before the deadline for activities and quizzes, in order to improve communication and motivation; • There will be one chat area dedicated to each group, freely available for use by students, tutors, group work, etc.; • Quizzes will have a deadline too; • Groups will be homogenized according the profiling results (assessment of previous knowledge and experience of each student); • Contributions to the forum will be optionally graded and followed up by tutors; • A final term individual coding project will be added and graded; • Students will be required to maintain a learning diary, which can be graded and commented by tutors; • Reminders to the students will be sent out by email on the beginning and near to the end of each Unit; • Students will be required to achieve a minimum grade of 75% in order to receive the final certificate.
