Definitions • Guard - continuous receiver watch w/complete log. Station with the guard has the responsibility to send and reply • Cover - Continuous receiver watch with complete log. Reply when called • Copy -continuous receiver watch with complete log. • Listen - continuous receiver watch. Just listens to the net
Secure vs. Nonsecure • Secure - entire signal is encrypted • Nonsecure - plain radio • use call signs, code books and authentication procedures
EMCON • Emission control • radio signals can be intercepted • short, concise messages
Call Signs • Two letters and 1 number • Change daily at Z • Individual or Collective call up
Prowords • Roger – received the last transmission • Over – End of transmission, respond • Out – End of transmission, do not respond • Wait – must pause for a few seconds to get the information • Wait, out – pause longer than a few seconds • Break – 2 uses
Establishing a Net • Net control station is assigned • All stations are called and authenticated • Each station is called back when heard
Messages • Immediate Execute • C3F this is A2W, turn port 090, ISA, turn port 090, stby,…, execute, over • Delay Execute • C3F this is A2W, XTF, turn port 090, over • Non-executive • C3F this is A2W, M Corpen is 359
Beadwindow & Gingerbread • Beadwindow • Used to tell transmitting station they messed up • Only response is “roger out” • Gingerbread • Used when you think there is an intruder on the net
Naval Messages • Routine - 6 hrs or less to respond • Priority - 3 hours or less • Immediate - 30 minutes or less • Flash - ASAP, < 10 minutes
