  2. What is a Drug? A drug is an externally administered chemical substance(other than food) that can modify or affect chemical reaction in the body.

  3. WHAT IS DRUG ABUSE? Drug abuse is a disorder that is characterized by a destructive pattern of using a substance that leads to significant problems or distress. DRUGS THAT ARE COMMONLY ABUSED: 1.Amphetamines 2. Heroine 3.Cocaine 4.Caffeine

  4. Drug Addiction Drug addiction or dependence is characterized by destructive pattern of drug abuse that leads to significant problems involving tolerance or withdrawal from the substance.

  5. ALCOHOLISM Alcoholism, also known as alcohol dependence, includes the following four symptoms: Craving- A strong urge to drink. Loss of control- Unable to stop drinking. Physical dependence- Withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, anxiety, vomiting, shakiness after drinking is stopped. Tolerance—The need to drink greater amounts of alcohol to get "high."

AMPHETAMINE • Amphetamine is a psychostimulant drug. • This group of drugs comes in many forms, from prescription medications to illegally manufactured drugs like methamphetamine ("meth"). • The drug is also used recreationally and as a performance enhancer. • Amphetamine have coined numerous street names such as "speed".

  9. TOBACCO 1. Nicotine Addictive 2.Tar (a black sticky substance) Forms in the moist lungs 3.Carbon monoxide A poisonous gas that stops red blood cells from carrying oxygen around the body.

  10. EFFECTS OF TOBACCO SMOKING • SHORT TERM: • Dizziness. • Nausea. • Weakened sense of taste and smell. • Loss of appetite. • LONG TERM • Cancer (lungs, throat, pancreas, and stomach) • Asthma • Emphysema  • Heart attack and other coronary diseases

  12. ANTIBIOTICS PROCESS: • Antibiotics destroy cell wall components protein producing machineries of the bacteria and prevent multiplication and cell division. BENEFITS: • Cure the bacterial diseases such as tuberculosis. •  Will cure the disease in the shortest span of time.

  13. ANTIBIOTICS Antibiotics is used to treat bacterial infection. TYPES: 1.Amoxicillin 2.Ciprofloxacin 3.Cefaclor 4.Ampicillin 5.Azythromycin 6.Streptomycin 7.Penicillin 8.Cephalosporin

Drawbacks of Antibiotics • People are pouring tons of antibiotics into their systems, often with no benefit except to the manufacturers of antibiotics. • Leading to more resistant bacteria, more patients with difficult-to-treat secondary infections AND quite commonly, uncomfortable side effects. • Poor adherence to antibiotic therapy. • Missing and incomplete dose.
