Clarity – Putting over a message - Gest Brecht Understand the importance of gesture and ‘Gest’ in communicating with an audience
The intention • Brecht’s principle concern is to put over a message in such a way that an audience can be in no doubt as to the intentions of the performance.
Responses • Devise three short scenes that demonstrate three different responses. • The battlefield when you are on the losing side • The factory when the management has awarded themselves a pay rise but not the workers • A group of patients whose doctor has been arrested for possible murder • Members of a small community whose village is being threatened by the building of a huge out-of-town shopping centre.
Gest • Gest is Gest plus attitude • Gest is about attitude but it is also about clarity.
New responses Now go back to your response scenes you did before but this time use Gest . Choose an attitude for each one that you want to convey to an audience.
