  1. EMVA 1288 Standard for Measurement and Presentation of Specifications for Machine Vision Sensors and Cameras Clear definitions for a clear VISION

  2. Workshop Program • Why we need 1288 • Prof. Bernd Jähne, University Heidelberg • Organization of 1288 Working group and standard • Martin Wäny, AWAIBA • Basic Information • Dr. Emil Ott PCO • Module 1: Sensitivity, temporal and spatial noise, Dynamic range… • Dr. Fritz Dirks BASLER • Module 2: Linearity and linearity error • Dr. Kari Siren TVI

  3. Motivation • Existing Standards for cameras are not suitable for MV • Each Sensor and Camera Manufacturer has it’s own definitions • The Customer is left guessing with datasheets QE-Sensor Illumination L(l)-curve = ? = 0 Lux!!

  4. The 1288 Standardization Working group • Founded in February 2004 • Driven by the industry • User oriented. „Make the MV Engineers lives easier“ • Open Working Group

  5. The EMVA 1288 Working Group The EMVA 1288 Working group is open! Contact info@emva.org

  6. Module 1 • Sensitivity • Quantum Efficiency • Dynamic Range • Spatial and temporal noise (DSNU PRNU) • Over all system gain • Module 2 • Linearity • Module 3 • Color • Module X • More to follow Approach • Modular standard framework • New modules are to complete the standard rather than to replace previous versions The modular approach protects investment in measurement equipment, processes and education

  7. Each Module contains: Mathematical Model Measurement setup Fit the data to the model Data Presentation Clear understanding Happy Customer

  8. Current Status & Roadmap • First Module Released in Sep 2005 (Sensitivity, SNR) • Second module (linearity) in Preliminary release. Official release planned in Q1 2007 • Vision 2006 show’s many 1288 compliantly characterized products • Preliminary release of third and fourth module (Color & Defects/Artifacts) planned for Q1 2007

  9. Thank you for your attention In God we trust, all other we measure • Current standard draft www.emva.org or www.standard1288.org Contact EMVA: info@emva.org Contact me: waeny@awaiba.com
