Pre-Writing - RAFT • Role – Who are you as the writer? • A reporter arguing that your side is valid • Audience – To whom are you writing? • The public; specifically, those with an opposing view • Format – What form will the writing take? • 1 paragraph • Topic – What is the subject of the writing? • Genetically Modified Organisms

Drafting – Paragraph Structure • Title • Thesis Sentence • Using a hook is optional • Startling fact, question, description, etc. • Introduce topic and position • Topic is Position because one, two, three • Body • Use transitions (p. 40) to introduce each new idea that supports your overall topic • S-C-C-C (p. 39) at least one time • Conclusion Sentence • Re-state your thesis using different words
