People and society • Population-2,082,370 • Religions-Macedonian Orthodox 64.7%, Muslims 33.3%, other Christians 0.37%, other and unspecified 1.63% • Ethnic Groups-Macedonia 64.2%,Albanian 25.2%,Turkish 3.9%,Roma(Gypsy)2.7%,Serb 1.8%,other 2.2% • Languages-Macedonian(official) 66.5%,Albanian(official) 25.1%,Turkish 3.5%,Roma 1.9%,Serbian 1.2%,other 1.8% • Capital and other important cities-Skopje, Strumica, Veles, Kumanovo

Government And History • Macedonia's government is Parliamentary Democracy • Macedonia was defeated by the Roman and became a Roman providence in 148 B.C. • The Ottoman Turks had dominated Macedonia for the next five centuries, until 1913 • Most part of Macedonia went to Serbia and the remainder was divided among the Greece and Bulgaria

  4. Economy • Macedonia’s unemployment rate is 31.4% • Macedonia’s major industries- are food processing, beverages, textiles, chemicals, iron, steel, cement, energy, and pharmaceuticals
