  2. #1 RuleRead the Directions • Writing proposals involves carefully reading the directions, including eligibility, submission requirements and deadlines. • Your proposal will not be considered if you don’t follow the directions EXACTLY!

  3. How do you begin? • Background Information – data • Organizational Information • A problem that needs to be addressed

  4. A project, plan or concept to address the problem • objectives and outcomes • Behavioral — A human action is anticipated. • Example: Fifty of the 70 children participating will learn to swim. • Performance — A specific time frame within which a behavior will occur, at an expected proficiency level, is expected. • Example: Fifty of the 70 children will learn to swim within six months and will pass a basic swimming proficiency test administered by a Red Cross-certified lifeguard. • Process — The manner in which something occurs is an end in itself. • Example: We will document the teaching methods utilized, identifying those with the greatest success. • Product — A tangible item results. • Example: A manual will be created to be used in teaching swimming to this age and proficiency group in the future.   21. Grant Alphabet Soup • RFP – Request for Proposal • In-kind Contribution • An in-kind contribution is a non-cash input which can be given a cash value. Here are some examples of in-kind contributions: • A local community “loans” a school or a church to a literacy program for classroom space. • A government agency donates some paper to print books. • A consultant donates his time to your program. • A bus company donates the use of bus at no cost or at a cost below market.

  22. Grant • We don’t write grants, we receive them. We write a proposal for funding. • Award • Formal notification that you are receiving the funding.
