Influential Factors Related to Career Decision Making • Generalization of self derived from experiences and performance • just like self efficacy • Sets of developed skills used in coping with the environment • The different environments we function in, and our ability to handle the environment • Career entry behavior • Planning to execute versus executing

  4. Clinical Applications • Determining problematic beliefs and generalizations is important • Address the following problems • Problems are not solvable • Lack of initiative • Inappropriate elimination of alternatives • Poor alternative choices • Perception of not being able to succeed

Career Counseling Strategies • Savickas and Walsh (1996) recommendations: • Stage 1: Interview • Stage 2: Assessment • Stage 3: Generate activities • Sage 4: Collect Information • Stage 5: Share information and estimate consequences • Stage 6: Reevaluate, tentatively decide, or recycle • Stage 7: Job search strategies
