Tycoon • a very wealthy and powerful business person • An oil tycoon who's widely considered the most powerful man in the county
Haven • a place where you are protected from danger, trouble, etc. • This national park provides a safe haven for wildlife.
Assimilate • to adopt the ways of another culture : to fully become part of a different society, country, etc. • Schools were used to assimilate the children of immigrants.
Desist • to stop doing something • Despite orders from the police, the protesters would not desist.
Lucrative • producing money or wealth • The business has proved to be highly lucrative.
Contort Twist or bend out of its normal shape; to distort My face contorted in pain.
Smugness • An often unjustified feeling of being pleased with oneself or one’s achievements. • The player’s smugness about his accomplishments made him annoying to listen to. You almost wanted him to fail.
