  18. Forget about the medicine (to an extent) • Don’t underestimate the importance of introductions • Empathise • Listen to understand, not to reply Tip: Make sure you download a copy of your recorded interview to learn from - it can be extremely useful!

Don’t skip lectures to revise • Prioritise your revision • Past papers are your friend! • Don’t compare yourself to others Tip: Accept you’re not going to know everything but have discipline when revising to put yourself in the best possible position when it comes to taking those dreaded exams.

  23. Top Tips 1. Print the ‘Year 1 MBBS Blackboard Submission Deadlines’ available from Blackboard and keep it pinned to your noticeboard. 2. Get involved - Uni is the time to try new things, whether that be a sport, music, skill or cultural group. ICSM has so much to choose from and many clubs go above and beyond the social side, offering notebanks, proofreading your hand-ins or maybe just a reassuring chat around exam season.

Make the most of older students - Towards the end of the year in particular, many older students will organise and lead small group tutorials (or occasionally large revision days) to help prepare you for your exams. 4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help - There are plenty of brilliant options if ever you find yourself struggling at Imperial including free student counselling (ask your Welfare reps for details).

  25. Top Tips 5. Last but certainly not least, make the most of your time at ICSM and enjoy it! Put yourself out there, try new things and challenge yourself. Finally, best of luck for first year, you’ll smash it!
