Student Teaching Semester • Speech-Language Pathology: 10 weeks • Art/PE/Special Education: 8 weeks at elementary AND 8 weeks at middle/junior OR high school • Elementary Education: 8 weeks at a primary AND 8 weeks at an intermediate level • All other majors: 8 weeks middle/junior high AND 8 weeks high school
Locations for Student Teaching • Indiana • Nearby Illinois • Cannot student teach in school attended or where you may have family ties • Cannot be a paid coach while student teaching in a school/corporation
Cultural Immersions Project • If interested in student teaching abroad or within the Navaho Nation, please see the Cultural Immersions link on the Education Student Services Website under “Student Teaching”
Calendar Information • Work according to your host school calendar—not ISU’s calendar • May need to make housing changes • Spring Break is according to your host school
During Student Teaching • You will be assigned a university supervisor who is an adjunct faculty member • You are encouraged to not work outside student teaching • You may not take classes except those required for your student teaching semester—check with your advisor for the appropriate courses
Application Process Application is a three-step process: • Step 1 – Fill out the “Student Teaching Application Form” in Tk20. (instruction sheet provides more details) • If you trouble accessing your account – go to CIRT in lower level of University Hall • Meet with your advisor/program coordinator to review placement requests
Application Process • Step 2 – Download the “Student Teaching Placement Resume” in Word format that is linked from Step 1 • Fill out your information on the form and save on your computer • Turn in a total of five printed copies of this document with your original signature on each copy
Application Process • Step 3 – Run an unofficial transcript from your ISU Portal account. (instruction sheet provides more details) • Make five copies of your unofficial transcript • Attach one copy to each copy of your signed Student Teaching Placement Resume (using paperclips only)
Application Process • Turn all paperwork in to the Education Student Services Office, Room 115, University Hall • Applications must be submitted by September 25 only during normal office hours (8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.)
Placement Process • Once applications are received, placement will begin • DO NOT contact schools—Education Student Services will do that • Notification of placements will be done in Tk20
Placement Next Steps • After you receive your placement information, please contact the teacher and arrange a meeting • Attend the mandatory Student Teaching Orientation Meeting: • In November for Spring Student Teachers • In April for Fall Student Teachers
Orientation Meeting • You will: • be provided with an overview of your student teaching semester • meet a University Supervisor • receive universal precautions training • meet other student teachers in your area
