SpecificationsAxe Scabbard • Used to protect the axe and the user • Made of leather and coated with a light coat of leather softener • Worn high and right on body
Use • Forcible entry / exit • Ventilation • Search & rescue • Breaching
Maintenance • Axe • Check handle for cracks and splinters • Sand handle and coat with boiled linseed oil • File blade sharp with bastard file • Clean and coat head with WD-40 to prevent rusting • Scabbard • Check for cuts, cracks, & tears • Make sure Velcro is clean and the buckle and swivel are in good working condition
Safety • Wear appropriate PPE • Minimum of helmet, gloves, and eye protection • Full turnouts and SCBA are required when utilizing tool in an IDLH atmosphere or when making entry into a possible IDLH atmosphere • Check surroundings before swinging • Ensure the tool is the right tool for the job
