  2. Terminal Hair

  3. Cells • Keratinocytes- cells that produce keratin, the protein also found in our nails and skin • Melanocytes- cells that produce melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color

  4. Melanosomes • Eumelanosomes- melanosomes that specialize in producing brown-black pigments • Phaeomelanosomes- melanosomes that specialize in producing yellow-red pigments

  5. Pigments Beta-Carotene Excited Lycopene Angry Zeaxanthin Nervous Protocyanin Relaxed Petunidin Happy

  6. Vikeresthesis

  7. Chameleons Chromataphores Highly branched cells that contain pigments that disperse or aggregate to change color based on hormones

  8. Hormones Referred to as the body’s “chemical messengers”, hormones transport information and instructions to targeted cells through the blood stream.

  9. Endocrine System

  10. Pituitary Gland • Closest to the scalp • It’s connection to the hypothalamus, a portion of the brain, allows it to secrete hormones based on emotions.

  11. Vikeresthesis Hormone The vikeresthesis hormone targets melanocyte cells and signals them to produce another pigment based on the emotions the hypothalamus relayed to it.

  13. Positives and Negatives • You have the option to have this ability by eating certain vegetables and fruits or taking vitamins. • For those who do want this ability, it would force them to eat healthier. • When we eat beta-carotene it gives us just the right amount of Vitamin A and is being studied as an anti-tumor agent. • Zeaxanthin has been shown to reduce the risk of macular degeneration. • In some cases lycopene has lowered the risk of some cancers. • It would lead to a more honest society. 1.Hormones in the wrong amount can be harmful to the body. 2.In some social situations it would not be useful for others to know your feelings. 3.Those who do not want to have this ability would have to avoid certain foods.
