  1. Agenda • Overview & report – Project managers • Silicon Status – Demarteau • Fiber Status – Bross Still “recovering” from Inst. & Comm review because it has changed our thinking --> impact !

  2. Status Overview since last PMG • Silicon • Hear from Demarteau • Recent Micron visit • Strengthened management • Fibers • Hear from Bross • Ribbon production going well • Cylinder 8 complete and GOOD • Flex circuits still a concern, delaying start of cassette production

  3. Status Overview • Preshowers • Some schedule re-arrangement, net speedup • Tracking Electronics • Some (2-4wks) slippage in layout and vendor production • Continuing to understand SIFT chip operation at low noise, and 132ns • Calorimeter Electronics • 95% of preamps (54kch) in hand • 80% of packaged SCA’s in hand, will probably need to order 5k more • Small layout problems cause 2-3 week delay to BLS schedule

  4. Status Overview • ICD • Module testing underway • First results of uniformity in supertiles are in: all within the ± 10% specified • Awaiting final version preamps & motherboard for module tests, but proceeding • Central Muons • Commissioning continues • Forward Muons • Trig Pixels: Proceeding well on schedule; 32 out of 48 octants are built. • MDTs: Recent slowdown due to parts delivery continues, winter shipping a concern for B layer • Production on A MDTs layer has started, first octant completed • Will be effected by potential new installation sequence.

  5. Status Overview • Trigger & DAQ • Proceeding well • Some schedule re-arrangement for SLIC delivery • Review last week: expressed worry about the many PC boards that are needed I.e. vendor probelms • Online • Manpower in good shape • No schedule concerns, not on critical path • Installation & Commissioning • Review last week • Very useful preparation --> think about alternate schemes for installation, which would introduce contingency in schedule.

  6. Reportable Milestones • Completed milestones • 3 early • 3 on schedule • 3 late

  7. Near Term Reportable Milestones ~8w

  8. Items from Inst. & Comm. review Manpower requests and resources -will send request where physicists can help --> identify areas. resources see next page Installation sequence changes are being considered seriously now. Installation meeting next monday Request to lab not absolutely clear yet, but we will need mechanical techs.

  9. Manpower and Resources What are we doing about it ? Attempts/ ideas to identify manpower we requested last week: Fermilab: Beams Division Technical Div. Not yet ... Lab 7 resources D. Carpenter’s group, when finish trusses Barsotti’s group in CD for engineering help Technicians from Russia; ratio 1:3 in cost ?? Mechanical engineering: BNL ? Mechanical shops: USE THEM !!! NIU, Columbia, Notre Dame, Michigan State Univ. , Stony Brook E-shops: Rice, Iowa Request to lab not absolutely clear yet, but we will need mechanical techs.

  10. News and items • Engineering support for mixer board, necessary for fiber track trigger. FOUND • Work on installation sequence initiated by review continues • D0 will impact FNAL schedule • full report with request by 2nd PMG in January 2000 • “NT issue - one master student (NIU) is not enough” quote from closeout. Request help from CD in this respect. • Pressure on funding from all subsystems: silicon, fibers mainly

  11. Summary • Concerns • Silicon production & yields • Fiber flex circuits • Forward muon installation • M&S cost contingency (<$600k) • On the horizon • Development of different installation sequence
