  1. Analysis of main disturbances at Elettra (A. Pozzer) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  2. Trieste Sinchrotronvery sensitive Voltage Sags Voltage Peaks UPS does not for ALL DEVICES

  3. Disturbances PS or RF Plants off BEAM LOSS • What can we do? Analysis on the electric system with instruments “Equa” Signals acquired by Equa: -3 phases at 380V rms nominal -1 E-beam current in SR

  4. EQUA Parameters set up: -min voltage rms level 360V -max voltage rms level 420V -max voltage peak level 630V If one or more phases exceed the limit Equa records the event 100mS pre-triggers and 900mS post-triggers

  5. B E A M LOST 3 phases min rms E-Beam current SR starting event voltage Sag A Voltage Sag on three phases caused the lost of beam

  6. All the runs since 2000 Period June 2004 – August 2005 • the events withvoltage RMS level • the events with voltage PEAK level

  7. Events with MIN and/or MAX voltageRMS level beamloss Tot 112 events 32 of them Events distribuition in the course of the seasons

  8. events with Beam Loss summer summer summer First Consideration: the most difficult period at Elettra is certainly the summer season for the presences of thunderstorms.

  9. Duration – Depth a) – events with duration < 200mS 26 events E- Beam current Voltage Sag

  10. These limits have been observed:

  11. b) - events with duration > 200mS 6 events These limits have been observed:

  12. E – beam SR Voltage Sag BEAM LOSS 1) Duration: 500mS - Depth: 8.20%

  13. 2) Duration: 500mS - Depth: 5.30% NO BEAM LOSS E – beam current SR Voltage Sags Depth Events < 5% are not considered

  14. Events with MAX voltagePEAK level Working day in the morning A Voltage Peak SR in normal condition NO problem Voltage Peak E-beam currente SR

  15. But If ... SR is in a particular condition BEAM LOSS 3 events BEAM LOSS Always during the Ramping and with E- Beam current > 300mA

  16. Example: E-beam currente SR Voltage Peak

  17. Conclusion: • VOLTAGE PEAKS NO big Problems • future? With new Booster? • VOLTAGE SAGS NOT OK - too many Beam Losses HOPE U P S All Devices
