SPORTS AFTERNOON Why it should go ahead! Student 3 page 2: Low Merit Explain the significance for self, others, and society of a sporting event, physical activity or festival
Benefits of Sport • Social - being with mates • Re-energise • Makes communities stronger eg when my home town built the Community Rec Centre • Health improves - physical and mental
More benefits of Physical Exercise/Sport • Better aerobic fitness • Better concentration • Less disease • Fun and enjoyment • Transfer of fitness between sports eg Sport Climbing unit we did in PE I could see how it would help me improve upper body strength which could be useful in pre season training for a boys whose main sport was rugby
Benefits to ME personally • Enjoy playing sport with my mates • Like trying new sports eg sportclimbing • Enjoy time away from class/academic subjects • Helps me reach goals eg make rep side, get to level 12 in beep test • Time to chill out and relax and also burn off excess energy
SPORTS AFTERNOON - Opinions from OTHERS Class discussion with peers • Time off school • Get sport done while still light during winter • Easier to manage/organise because all done in school time not weekends/evenings Interview with teacher • Extra workload for them • Nice to get to know students in diff environment • Opportunity to work in an area of my interest eg badminton
Research /Initiatives • He Ha - Ministry of Health’s strategic approach to improving nutrition & increasing physical activity and achieving healthy weight for NZrs • Move Me - My time, my rules, my pace. This is a local initiative to get our community active using what they have around them eg local parks etc
