  2. What the Morrill Act did The Morrill Act of 1862 was also known as the Land Grant College Act. It was a major boost to higher education in America. Of the 106 land-grant institutions, all but two (the Community College of Micronesia, and Northern Marianas' College) are members of the Land-Grant University (APLU) (formerly the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges or NASULGC .
