  9. Firing • Firing is the process of baking and hardening pottery. • Clay is hardened by heating it to a high temperature, thus fusing the clay particles. • Temperature in kilns can reach 2500 degrees.

  18. Slab • Joining shapes together; thick sheets of clay. • Roll out like a pancake then cut out the desired shape.

  19. Glaze • liquid glass; painted onto bisqueware pottery; when fired in the kiln it forms a translucent or colored covering. • If you choose glaze – your project needs to be fired 2 times!

Draw 3 thumbnail sketches = Quiz • Bring in a bowl from home to use as a mold. • Inside the bowl, attach your clay design (coil or slab) in an interesting & creative way. • Remember to slip and score! • Smooth edges and bumps. • Set out to dry • Fire in the kiln • Paint: Choose glaze, watercolor, acrylic • Fire in the kiln again if you glazed.
