NomarGarciaparra Hits 197 Times at bat 529 A ratio is a comparison of two numbers using division. (the denominator cannot be zero) Player 1 – Player 2 – Player 3 – Best average = 0.372
Ratios A ratio of a to b can be written in three ways: a b a:b a to b Simplify the ratio. • 60 cm:200 cm 2. 3 ft 18 in
Use Ratios In the diagram, AB:BC is 4:1 and AC = 30. Find AB and BC. A B C A B C
Use Ratios The perimeter of a rectangle is 80 ft. The ratio of the length to the width is 7:3. Find the length and width of the rectangle.
Setting 2 ratios equal to one another creates a “Proportion”. A C B D • The numbers A and D are called the extremes • The numbers B and C are called the means. • You can solve a proportion by using the cross produce property Cross Product Property “In a proportion, the product of the means is equal to the product of the extremes.”
Solve each Proportion • y+2 3 6 • 6 X 8
