PhoDeCC. TEC2006-10009/MIC Photonic Devices for Chaos-Based Communications Research Team: Pere Colet (IP), Claudio Mirasso, Damià Gomila, Alessandro Scirè, Adrian Jacobo, Antonio Perez Lopez + Ingo Fisher (Edinburgh), Jan Dankaert (Brussels) & Laurent Larger (Besançon) Funded by: Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia. Programa Nacional de Tecnología Electrónica y de Comunicaciones Duration: October 1st 2006 to September 30th 2009. Budget: Direct Costs 59.000 + Overheads UIB: 12.390. Total: 71.390 euros. + 1 PhD fellowship.
Objectives and Tasks • Context: Optical Communications using Chaotic Waveforms. • Linked to OCCULT & PICASSO Projects • General Objective: Study the dynamics of robust and compact devices which can allow to increase the level of security and the use of new encoding techniques. • Specific Tasks (already running / to be tackled) • Study of edge-emitting semiconductor lasers subject to several feedback loops or subject to a state dependent feedback. • Study of semiconductor lasers with two or three integrated sections. Modulation in the feedback-phase of one of the sections. Nonlinear feedback. • Chaos generation in electro-optical systems. Systems with several delays or with variable delay. • Exploration of the chaotic regimes in semiconductor ring lasers.Synchronization and message encoding/decoding. • Spatio-temporal chaos in broad area devices subject to optical feedback. Synchronization. Codification techniques.
