What is the Insight Survey? • The Insight Survey calculates an Instructional Culture Index based on teacher survey responses. • The Instructional Culture Index is an independently validated measure of school culture. • The Instructional Culture Index is a leading indicator of teacher retention and student achievement.
What does the Instructional Culture Index tell us about a school? • The Instructional Culture Index can be considered a summative measure of a school’s talent management practices. • Domains and individual items within the Insight report provide feedback on specific systems that support and develop strong instruction, while the Index score tells us about teachers’ experience as a whole.
How is the Instructional Culture Index calculated? • The Instructional Culture Index is calculated from the % of teachers who “Agree” or “Strongly Agree” on three specific survey items. • The survey items are: • My school is committed to improving my instructional practice. – 93% • The expectations for effective teaching are clearly defined at my school. – 86% • Teachers at my school share a common vision of what effective teaching looks like. – 80%
How is the Instructional Culture Index calculated? (continued) • These three items are used for the Index because research has shown that they reliably summarize teachers’ experience of performance management practice in their schools. • Index scores are reported on a scale from 1-10 based on the responses from all teachers. • A %tile score in comparison to all other district schools is also calculated.
