Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County (EPC) was created in 1967 by a special act of the Florida Legislature to control and regulate activities which are or may reasonably be expected to cause pollution or contamination of air, water, soil and property, or cause excessive and unnecessary noise.

What does it all mean? • ~2940 contaminated sites in the system all with different types and levels of contamination • ~1440 sites have been closed and no longer pose a risk to human health or the environment • More sites likely to be identified in future • The federal, state, and local government programs have little to no overlap, except in emergencies like the recent pipeline spill when everyone joins forces to minimize the human health and environmental impacts.
