Purpose • Increase broadband use in Maine by … • Identifying barriers to broadband deployment by service providers • Identifying barriers to broadband use by households and businesses
Data & Methods (municipality-level analysis) • Data from ConnectME mapping project on percentage of municipality with access to broadband via DSL, cable, fixed wireless, etc. • Data from FCC (form 477) on number of residential fixed high speed connections per 1,000 households • Examine association with municipality-level characteristics such as population density, household and business characteristics, presence of community anchor institutions, etc.
Data & Methods (household- and business-level analysis) • Data from current project on type of Internet connection used by household (or business); e.g., dial-up, DSL, cable, etc. • Examine association with household (or business) characteristics from survey, industry and town-level characteristics
Modeling Summary • Goal is to integrate economic analysis with mapping project, current data collection efforts, and overall objectives of ConnectME
