Terminology Web-Enhanced Course • Uses web resources to augment an on campus course. • Internet is used to deliver course materials and facilitate communication. • There are regularly scheduled class meetings on campus. • Online tools, resources and communication methods to support pedagogical needs may include but are not limited to: • syllabus, schedules, email, practice quizzes, additional visual materials, linked references, required and supplemental readings, grade book, and discussions, etc.

  3. Terminology Web-Classroom Course • Uses internet to deliver 100% of course content asynchronously. • Online tools, resources and communication methods to support pedagogical needs may include but are not limited to those already described…..

Terminology Hybrid Course • Advertised as hybrid with date and time of meetings listed. • Scheduled class meetings deliver less than 50% of course content. • On campus or online synchronous interaction provide discussion and continued learning opportunities. • Students not required to attend the scheduled class meetings. • To meet needs of all students, online or on campus meetings will be taped and provided online through audio streams or video streamed lectures with synchronized PowerPoint presentations. • Online tools, resources and communication methods to support pedagogical needs may include but are not limited to: • Adobe Connect, syllabus, schedules, email, practice quizzes, additional visual materials, linked references, required and supplemental readings, discussions and grade book, etc.

Online Programs • Total Graduates- 665 (1996 Winter) • RN-BSN (1993) • 59 transferable non-nursing credits • 30 credits awarded for current RN Licensure • 31 credits of UD baccalaureate level nursing • Includes one 3-credit (84 hrs.) clinical course completed in own geographical location ______________ 120total credits

Online Programs • MSN • Health Services Administration (2004) • 36 credits, 1 clinical course • Clinical Nurse Specialist (2002) • 34 credits, 3 clinical courses • Nurse Practitioner (hybrid - 2010) • 43-46 credits- 19 credits online; 24-27 credits on campus • RN-MSN (2004) – 134-147 credits • Students complete 13 baccalaureate credits then are transitioned to graduate adviser. • All concentrations listed above are offered….

SON Policy for Online Courses & Teaching Course Revision Timelines • Courses offered online must be updated each time course is offered. • Lectures are to be reviewed for revisions minimally every 2 years. • Content, quality of visuals, and new technological and/or pedagogical methods are to be considered. • Courses could be entirely redone or updated with revisions as needed.

SON Policy for Online Courses & Teaching Course Revision Timelines • Options for semester revision include re-taping selected modules and/or adding content to the course website. • Lecture revision dates must be listed on the first PowerPoint slide of lecture modules. • Semester revision date must be listed on the Sakai homepage.

SON Policy for Online Courses & Teaching Maximum Enrollment for Web-Classroom Course • The “class size should encourage a high level of interactivity.” 1 • The optimal maximum enrollment per section in 100% online graduate and undergraduate courses is 23. • If additional students wish to enroll, a faculty member has the option to discuss with the Director. • “For online courses that do not have an equivalent live course, student enrollment will require the approval of the Director and the Dean of the college if it exceeds 40 students.”2 1. Recommendations • Use skilled advisors/faculty • Provide students with an orientation course • Online learning, technology, resources, expectations • Have well organized Sakai sites with as much detail as possible • Use a plagiarism program (Turn-It-In) • Provide frequent feedback to students • Set limits (for students, for self)
