First Grade 2014-2015 Sight Words Math Week of 9/01: Accomplishment, Enhance is, my, go, me, like, Week of 9/08: Confirm, Reflect so, we, up, at, see Week of 9/15: Greedy, Infant do, an, can, no, am Week of 9/22: Enemy, Honorable went, are, this, look, get Week of 9/29: Review the words come, got, play, will, too We are continuing to work on building numbers with cubes and other manipulatives. Students are also using ten frames to create addition & subtraction number sentences up to ten. It is important that students have fluency up to sums of ten at this point. Language Arts 09/17: Learning about the Constitution! In Reading we will continue working on Fluency (meaning the smoothness or flow with which sounds, syllables, words and phrases are joined together when speaking quickly). And becoming a reader who reads & rereads for the whole time. Students should be able to retell the stories they have read in sequence. In Writing we are continuing writing about Small Moments that have happened in our lives. Students should be able to stretch out a small moment over several pages & use strategies to help them spell words correctly. Science/ S.S. This month in Science we are finishing our unit on Weatherand will begin our new unit on Plants/Animals. In Social Studies we are finishing our unit on Community and beginning to explore the United States’ national heritage. We are using the theme of culture to learn about folktales and patriotic songs. Students will also use the theme of location to explore basic geography. Any first grade social studies games or apps will be used on Fridays. Please send the device ready with for social studies and send the device charged.
