  3. Tiles Throughout History • It is unknown when tiles first appeared, however, tiles have been around for a long time. 6ooo years ago they were used in Egypt, Babylonia, and China. Tiles come in all sizes and functions. They can be part of interior design or monumental projects. Some are plain and others are very ornate.

  4. TILE ASSIGNMENT • Clay body - any • Temp - any, cone 6 good • Size - minimum 7x7x1/2” wet • Topic - any • Technique - slab & bas relief Objectives: 1) Design a well balanced, thoughtful, well constructed tile. 2) Tile will demonstrate bas relief.

  5. AlternateProject • A box, box lid, cylinder, basket, thrown plate or sculpted figure with bas relief.

  6. TILE TIPS • Do not make tiles too thin. • Do not make appliqué too thick. If thick, hollow from behind. • Allow tiles to dry slowly. If possible weigh edges down as it dries.
