To San Antonio residents, the AT&T Center is a very familiar destination...a multi-purpose indoor arena that sees basketball games, ice hockey matches, concerts, and many local community and sporting events, it’s probably fair to say that every person living there has visited the arena atleast once in their lifetime! Arena Trivia The arena first opened its doors back in 2002 as the SBC Center. This facility was developed as the Alamodome, the original venue of the San Antonio Spurs’ home games, became unsuitable for the team and their fan’s expanding needs and a new venue became necessary. It was only in January 2006 that the arena was officially renamed the AT&T Center. Those who call the AT&T Center Home Given the nature of the space, many spectacles have been hosted here since the venue opened. The years have seen electrifying live performances by powerhouses like Aerosmith, Madonna, Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and many others. There are however, a few showstoppers that claim the AT&T Center as home - 5-time NBA champions San Antonio Spurs, AHL (American Hockey League) team San Antonio Rampage, and WNBA team San Antonio Stars all play their home games here. Besides these annual basketball and hockey commitments, the AT&T Center also hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Xtreme Bulls tour, Built Ford Tough Series, and Bud Light River City Rockfest. What’s Up at the AT&T Center In the Next Week or Two? There’s a whole lot of excitement scheduled at the AT&T Center over the next ten days or so, covering sporting events as well as concerts. Fans of the San Antonio Stars will undoubtedly be lining the courts to cheer their women on as they face off against New York Liberty, Los Angeles Sparks, Indiana Fever, Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx betweenAugust 26 and September September 11. Music lovers also have some exciting choices with pop rock band Maroon 5performing on September 3, the Future Now Tour headlined by Demi Lovato and Nick Jonason September 10, some international flavour courtesy of Sydney-based pop band 5 Seconds of Summer on September 14, the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour on September 16, and country music star Miranda Lambert performing on September 17.
