Do You Moodle? CECnet - An e-learning Environment for Real Estate Courses
Introduction • MOODLE vs. alternative VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) options • Starting up with MOODLE • Conclusions & Discussion
Introduction • ... collaborative working environments • ... online course management systems • Distinction e-learning - blended learning • Mix of presence and virtual interaction • Ownership - sharing information
Acronyms CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction), CBT (Computer Based Training) CMS (Course Management System), ILS (Integrated Learning Systems), LMS (Learning Management System), ODT (On Demand Training), TBL (Technology Based Learning), TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning), WBT (Web Based Training) ...
MOODLE vs. alternative VLE options • Any web space could be identified as a basic form of VLE ?! • Key issue: Does it lead to significant learning effects ? • Low-profile solution = „intelligent“ file storage system • Development from scratch by yourself ?
Software packages? • Proprietary (WebCT) - Open Source (eFront, Dokeos, IlAS, MOODLE, Sakai) • See also Wikipedia - group-based creation, verification, and elaboration of information
Starting up with MOODLE • „Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment“ • Installation fairly easy • Role assignments • Wide variety of features built in: feedback, submission of assignments, quizzes, … • No obligation to use all of them • Expanding the range from course to course
Some Conclusions & Discussion • Increasing integration of VLE-technologies in an educational setting • Software solutions are available • No need to invent a homemade solution • Further extensions – for example “Captivate” • Goal is not to replace human input • Reasonable relationship between efforts and output for participants (depending on group size, …) • Support personal development and exploration
