8 Elements of Civilization Every civilization shares 8 basic elements. Think of a skeleton. We all look different on the outside, but on the inside we all have the same bones, the same organs and the same systems that allow us to survive in the world
Art & Architecture Art – The creation and expression of beautiful items such as: painting, sculpture, music and performing arts Architecture – the designing and building of physical structures such as: buildings, roads, and bridges
Agriculture • The production of food by cultivating soil, producing crops, and raising livestock. Including farming, ranching, and fishing

Economy The cycle of labor (jobs), currency (money), trade and resources related to earning a living
Education Teaching the next generation the necessaryskills and knowledge to survive and be successful members of society. Learning occurs both inside the home and in society LEARNING!
Government The structure that is used to control, organize and support a large population Creates and enforces laws and policies to protect its citizens Many different types of government
Language Communication of thoughts and feelings Used to communicate with the world around us in order to express ourselves and accomplish goals
Lifestyle A way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a culture How people live their daily lives: their homes, clothing and recreation
Religion and Tradition Religion - A set of spiritual beliefs, values, and practices Tradition- the passing down of beliefs, legends, and customs from generation to generation
