  2. L’ Islanda geograficamente • L’ Islanda si trova nell’ Europa nord occidentale. • Confina a nord con il Mare di Groenlandia, a ovest e sud con l’ oceano Atlantico, a est con il Mar di Norvegia. La sua capitale è Reykjavìk e la sua superficie è di 102819 km². • L'Islanda è divisa in 8 regioni usate principalmente per scopi statistici, per delimitare le giurisdizioni delle corti distrettuali e in generale per l'attribuzione del codice postale. Prima del 2003 le regioni erano anche utilizzate per le elezioni dell'Althing.

  3. La lingua islandese • La lingua ufficiale è l‘islandese, una lingua scandinava, che ha avuto poche trasformazioni dal Medioevo a causa dell'isolamento geografico. Essa, infatti, si avvicina moltissimo alla lingua che parlavano gli antichi Vichinghi. Un testo di 600 anni fa, per esempio, può essere letto e compreso perfettamente dalla popolazione islandese. L'islandese, infine, si presenta come la più arcaica delle lingue germaniche oggi presenti in Europa.
