What is it? Geothermal energy is thermal energy generated and stored in the earth. Geothermal energy is pollution - free, a renewable energy source, and is consistently reliable.
How does it work? Geothermal Energy can be used in many ways. One way it can be used is to create electricity. Hot steam from underground rises out of the ground and spins a turbine, which powers a generator.
Positives • Does not release any gases into the atmosphere. • Geothermal is also a renewable energy • It is environmentallyfriendly in comparison to oil & gas. • It is not weather dependent • Geothermal heat pumps work year round
Negatives • Geothermal power plants can cause big earthquakes. • Heating/cooling systems are expensive. • Electricity is still needed to operate the power plants. • There are some minor environmental issues
Solution We can minimize these negative impacts by using less parts to make geothermal power plants, to lower the cost of the parts. We can also use air instead of water to put in these power plants. If we use less water and less parts, we can just make smaller geothermal plants.
Future Technology can help us with geothermal energy by ground source and direct use geothermal technologies serve heating and cooling applications, while deep and enhanced geothermal technologies generally take advantage of a much deeper, higher temperature geothermal resource to generate electricity.
