  1. Trend has been toward increased spending on development/ production R&D related projects. Currently 20% R&D spend on exploration 80% on development R&D technology contact Mark Shahly (Shahlym@bp.com, 52-01 4470) R&D at BP BP R&D Focus Areas Intelligent wells e-facilities, LoFS Rapid subsurface data integration Next generation reservoir simulation Field of the future Cost effective reservoir access Low cost drilling, testing, multilaterals, Seismic imaging Complex imaging (psdm) De-multiple, 4C, 4D methods Pushing reservoir limits Bright water, Low salinity, WAG Operations technology Subsea technology

  2. Future staff requirements • Greater need for production/development subsurface positions (RE’s, PE’s, development geologists, development geophysicists) than exploration • Skills at multidisciplinary teamwork and integration important • Norwegian graduates are well prepared for industry positions and are very competitive in a global workforce • Local Norway recruiting needs seen to be one or two subsurface professionals per year for the next few years, additional recruiting may come from other parts of company
