  3. Esther 3. One bad apple Setting the scene 2:21-23. Mordecai is a good, honest man. But in chapter 3, the evil Haman gets the promotion!

  4. Esther 3. One bad apple Real respect is earned not demanded Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. (1 Pet 5:6)

  7. Esther 3. One bad apple Resentment spreads…v8 Certain people whose customs are different…(true) …who do not obey the king's laws (partly true) It is not in the kings best interest to tolerate them (false)

One bad apple God will bring justice… casting the lot (7) • Cast on or before 13th “January” (v12) • Fell on 13th “December” (v13) – 11 months later out of possible 12! • 13th of first month – day before Passover! “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD” Prov 16:33

One bad apple Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. (Proverbs 3:5) God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his”(2 Tim 2:19)
