Learning Outcomes • What are they? • When/how can we use them?
LEARNING OUTCOMES Definition: Simple, specific statements which should derive from programmes of study. What teachers want pupils to have learned or be able to do by the end of a lesson or series of lessons.
Learning Outcomes – Task 1 • You will work in groups to find out what legislation [laws] commonly affects Employers and Employees in the workplace and be able to present your findings to your classmates via a PowerPoint presentation.
Learning Outcomes – Task 1 You will be able to… • confidently explain that melting is the process where a solid turns into a liquid and freezing is the process where a liquid turns into a solid.
Learning Outcomes – Task 1 PE Pupils will… • be able to swim front crawl with an efficient leg kick
Learning Outcomes – Task 1 DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY Pupils will…. • be able to design a box

Task 2 • Write down three Learning Outcomes for your own subject, which fit this definition.
Creating Success Criteria • What is it pupils need to do to achieve the Learning Outcome? • What skills or points do I have to teach so that pupils will achieve the Learning Outcome? • What criteria could I use to measure how successful a pupil has been in achieving a Learning Outcome?
SUCCESS CRITERIA Definition: • Success Criteria are statements of standards from which success in an activity can be measured. • Success Criteria are summary statements which illustrate exactly what it is that pupils must know/be able to do to achieve Learning Outcome.
Learning Outcome + Possible Success Criteria SCIENCES LO – Pupils will understand what melting is. Possible Success Criteria: Pupils can describe melting, making the following points: • Melting involves solids turning into liquids. • The particles in the solid move further apart. • Heat is required for melting to happen. • Different solids melt at different temperatures.
Learning Outcome + Possible Success Criteria PE LO -Pupils will be able to swim front crawl with an efficient leg kick Possible Success Criteria • Legs will be straight and toes pointed • Legs will reach a depth of approximately 18 inches and will only create a bubble at the surface. • Legs will pass close together. • Body position will be flat and will not rotate.
Task 3 Choosing one of your own Learning Outcomes and using your definition of Success Criteria, write down the possible Success Criteria you could use to measure pupil success.
