Some Verses on the Burning of My House Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672)
In 1630, Anne, her husband Simon, and her father sailed to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her father and her husband each rose to prominence, both becoming governors of the colony. Anne kept house and raised four boys – also finding time to write poetry. Anne is remembered today for her simple, personal lyrics about birth, death, love and family. Her poems also stand as witness to her strong Puritan faith and personal relationship with God.
